Living healthy and staying fit is best thing one can do for self. 2017 has been a better year from health point of view and I am determined to #EnsureAStronger2018, so that I can walk more, live more, travel more and stay fit.
It is often said that 40 is the new 30, while it is true in the sense that men and women in their 40s are looking better than ever and leading an active lifestyle these days. But at the same time, we all know once we hit 40 or near about muscle mass starts to decline. Legs – which once never felt tired even after miles of walking – now start to feel the pain, because bone density slowly starts to decrease in late 30’s. (Studies say that we lose bone density by about 1% a year.)
I often talk about nutrition in food and how to maximise it on my blog and various social media channels. And, one question which people often ask me how do I manage such an active lifestyle that involves long working hours that involve hours of standing during food shoots, maintain an active lifestyle, cook for family and self and still do not look tired :).
It was not like this always… After hitting the late 30s, all of a sudden I started to feel tired, irritable and moody at the same time. Initially, I brushed it aside blaming it on work stress but then the symptoms became more prominent. Gradually I started to realize this was heading towards (I have studied nutrition as my Postgraduate subject, though I am not a practicing or registered nutritionist). After a couple of tests, my Doctor confirmed about nutritional deficiencies I was having despite eating a good considerably healthy meal.
As we grow old, our body’s metabolic activity declines by 2% with every passing decade, muscle mass reduces every passing year and so is the bone density. With increasing age, while the body’s nutritional needs increase, the body’s natural capacity to absorb nutrition from food declines.
Our body needs a good amount of macronutrients and micronutrients like calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D and vitamin K for optimal bone health. Vitamin A, C, E, Folic acid, Zinc and magnesium etc for boosting immunity and Vitamin B12 for maintaining energy levels and proper absorption of Protein is required for maintaining the muscle mass. Here’s where Ensure is beneficial – it contains 28 vital nutrients and calcium, protein and Vitamin D which is essential to help build bones, improve immunity and provides a balanced nutrition diet. Its nutri-strength complex helps overcome the barriers of slowing metabolism, while giving the strength and mobility to life an active life, even in the 40s and 50s.
After I started regular supplementation with Ensure – which is the #1 Dr. recommended nutritional supplement for adults – and taking more care of the food I eat, I have been more active than before and started brisk walking once again. During my recent travels, I sometimes surprised myself by walking 10-14 Km a day. Every day I make sure to take around 5-8 K steps and eat a well-balanced diet along with daily supplementation with Ensure. My new year resolution is to #EnsureAStronger2o18 by continuing my active lifestyle. You can take a healthy resolution with Ensure too!
The best part is that I can add Ensure to anything – right from shakes, desserts, yogurt, lassi, or just enjoy it with plain milk. I’ve tried both the Vanilla and Chocolate flavours and they taste fabulous in most recipes. You can order Ensure online from Amazon or other websites such as Grofers, Big Basket and #EnsureAStronger2018 just like I did.
Sure we all age, but with age, we gain wisdom and grace. I am more comfortable in my skin than ever before, I do not get tired when we walk for miles during our travels :). Last year I traveled a lot (Visited 17 New cities around the world) and with so much better stamina. I can truly say that being 40+ is fabulous when I know that I can depend on Ensure for my health and well-being.
