Hibiscus tea recipe. A steeped hibiscus flower tea recipe, that tastes good and is healthy for you. Two ways to make Hibiscus tea.
Steeped floral tea recipes are current favorites for health conscious people these days. Hibiscus tea not only tastes good but it is good for the health. Hibiscus flower is rich in antioxidants and Vitamins like VitaminA, Vitamin C and Vitamin B1 and Iron. Rich in flavonoid glycosides which gives it a deep ruby red color.
Hibiscus tea has a fruity taste and slightly tart in taste, so in case you are not a fan of tart taste you can always add some honey or sweetener of your choice. You know how much I love tea and these floral infusions. You get too many these days in packaged form. Of late I have developed a great taste for my own homemade tea infusions over packaged ones, try them they taste amazing ! Not that fresh ones are not really good they are next best thing to fresh ones.
For now I am only concentrating on Hibiscus tea made with fresh hibiscus flowers. I added few raspberries as I had some frozen ones at home (I always freeze after I mostly get them from anyone is travelling abroad).
You can make this delicious hibiscus flower tea infusion in two ways. Hot tea infusion and Iced Hibiscus tea which is known as Agua de Jamaica.
Hot Hibiscus Tea (Infusion)
- 2 cups water
- 6-8 dried hibiscus flowers or 2-3 fresh hibiscus flowers
- 1 Assam tea bag
- Sweetener of your choice
- Heat up the water to a boil.
- Switch off the heat, add in hibiscus flower (remove the stamens first), Assam tea bag cover and allow the flower to steep for 5-6 minutes. Strain and add honey or your preferred sweetener.
Iced Hibiscus Tea
If you are like me, and prefer sipping tea or tea infusions over any other drink during summers, Iced Hibiscus infusion can be your latest favourite. I am obsessed these days :). Iced hibiscus tea is also known as Agua de Jamaica. For making Iced tea, basic infusing method remains like hot hibiscus iced tea. You can check the recipe of Agua de Jamaica below. In the actual recipe Assam tea bag is not used but I need that according to my personal preference so I add one just for that.
