Sesame and Oats Laddu recipe is my take on traditional Til Laddu. Delicious, gluten-free and refined sugar-free sweet to satisfy your sugar cravings in a healthier way.

    Oats & Sesame Laddu

If you are craving tasty yet healthy guilt free sweet dishes then til ke ladoo is your way to go. It is made with combining white sesame seeds, rolled oats, jaggery and desiccated coconut.

We make these til ke laddu for Makar Sankranti which falls on 14th January 2022.

These sesame laddu is a comforting sweet snack that provides energy as well nutrition. Sesame or til is rich in calcium, fibre and healthy fats. Nuts also provide good fats and proteins. Oats make if filling and has a lot of soluble fiber. Coconut is also a great source of healthy fats.

All the above nutrients makes them ideal winter snack. Just one laddu is enough to give you healthy dose of energy and keep your warm from inside out.

You may make them ahead of time, preserve them, and eat them whenever you choose. This recipe yields 10-12 laddu. You can, however, double or quadruple the amount.

Why We Love Til Ke Laddu

    • Very few Ingredients needed.
    • Can be made quickly.
    • Refined sugar-free.
    • Good source of energy and nutrition

    Why do we add jaggery?

Jaggery, unlike sugar, is nutritious and should be included in one's diet in small amount throughout the winter months.

    Ingredients

    • Rolled Oats: I have used organic rolled oats.
    • White sesame seeds - White sesame seeds can be used in this til ke laddu.
    • Dry Fruits: a mix of chopped cashew, walnuts and raisins.
    • Desiccated coconut- If you don't like or are allergic to peanuts and desiccated coconut, you may leave them out of the til laddu recipe. However, add another ½ of sesame seeds in place of the peanuts.
    • Jaggery or grated jaggery
    • Water
    • Cardamom powder (ground cardamom)
    • Ghee

    See recipe card for quantities

    Instructions

The making of til ke ladoos require three small steps.

    Roasting

    • Take a pan and put it on low to medium heat. Add the white sesame seeds to the pan. The pan should not be too hot, but should be kept at a low temperature.
    • Roast the sesame seeds over a low heat. Stir at regular intervals.
    • After roasting keep them aside.
    • In the same pan roast oats for 2-3 minutes on medium heat. Keep them stirring you want rawness of oats gone.
    • Once roasted keep them aside to cool.
    • When Oats are cool enough grind them to make oats powder.

    Making jaggery syrup

    • Combine the powdered or grated jaggery and water in the same pan or kadai.
    • Switch on heat on low.
    • Continue to mix the jaggery until it dissolves in the water.
    • Simmer the jaggery and water solution over low heat. It will begin to bubble initially.

    Combing the ladoo

    • After the steps, add powdered oats, sesame seeds, coconut, dried fruits and cardamom powder into the jaggery syrup.
    • Switch off the heat and mix it thoroughly.
    • Begin shaping til laddu from the ingredients while it is still hot. If it's too hot, wait a minute before forming the laddu. To mould the ladoo, spread some oil or water in your palms.
    • Store the ladoos in an airtight container or serve it and enjoy.

    Substitutions

    • Sweeteners: Most often, jaggery is used as sweetner in til ke ladoo. Jaggery is an unprocessed Indian sugar obtained from cane juice, if you don't have any jaggery, you can substitute sugar.
    • Oats: If you do not have rolled oats you can use regular instant oats.

    Variations

    • To make it more rich and creamy, you can include khoya into your recipe of til ke ladoo or simply add some milk.

    Recipe Notes

    1. Roasting: Sesame seeds should be roasted till they crackle and become crunchy. Make sure they don't brown.
    2. Do not allow the final mixture to cool completely. Make laddu while mixture is still slightly warm to shape and bind laddu properly.

    Storage

These til ke ladoos are very easy to store. Store it in an airtight container and it would be good to serve for a month.
