Smoothie Vs Juicing and Which is Better Extraction or Blending

This is how my produce table looks now, And I am loving it! The colors of fresh produce cheer me up in a major major way and this sure is the reason I love grocery shopping 🙂

Many of us eat reasonably healthy food still many of us complain of feeling sleepy and tired all the time. Most common reason is, our body is not able to absorb nutrients from the food we eat. Absorption and bioavailability of the nutrients are two most important factors as far as healthy eating is concerned. And the bigger problem sometimes is even those of us who know about these factors, tend to ignore it due to various reasons, work, friends, lack of time, lack of energy to cook and more such reasons ( excuses). I mostly belong to the second category. Even though I know nutrition dynamics, I tend to ignore them often due to same above mentioned excuses.

Last few months have been like that, indiscriminate eating, lack of exercise and now my body has started to tell me to slow down and take care. Yes, the tiredness, creeping pounds, low energy, these are the ways our body talks to us. So it's time to slow down for me and take it easy.

Last week I started my usual low GI diet regimen once again. And when I mention word diet by no means confuse it with those extreme ways of eating less going dangerously low carb or high proteins etc etc. I am eating grains, good fats and lots and lots of fresh food. It's been a week and I can already feel the difference.

    Difference between juicing and Extracting

Smoothies are basically food pulverized into liquid states. There are many blenders available in the market for that, choose one of those powerful ones that are powerful enough to break down cell walls to make nutrients available for easy absorption.

First of all understand the major difference between two techniques. Juicing involve same too but to extract the juice the machine discards the pulp which is a  major source of insoluble fibers. Now we all know how good are fibers for our digestive health and making us feel full.

That's one of the major factors that I would prefer smoothie over juice any day as far as fueling my body in the right way is concerned even over cold pressed juices, because juices lack the power to keep you full for long and I start feeling hungry again. One more plus here you can add your proteins and other nutrients in the form of seeds, nuts, avocados, even fats like coconut oil etc.

My point here is not dissing the juices altogether I do enjoy them especially the morning orange juice routine in orange season first thing in the morning but a small glass and that is my replacement for morning tea followed by a high protein breakfast. But if you are thinking in terms of meal replacement smoothies are the way to go without any doubt.

Smoothies are not only more filling and nutrient rich but a complete meal in itself,so one smoothie to replace  one meal makes more sense to be rather than going on drastic diets. Great way to get all day’s worth of nutrients in one single meal and enjoy rest of your reasonable healthy everyday food.

You can use your normal blender jar of the traditional mixer, but if it is a powerful machine you are left with chunky drippy smoothie which does not taste very appetizing and the whole purpose of making smoothie goes for a toss as far as easy digestibility and absorbing nutrients is concerned. So go for a powerful machine which can do the job easily. I am using Nutri bullet and liking it a lot. ( You can buy it here )

I am starting with my 5 favorite smoothie recipes which I will be sharing in next few days on both my youtube channel as well as here on blog.
