- 2 cups whole wheat flour atta
- 3 potatoes medium sized, boiled, peeled, and mashed
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- ½ teaspoon red chili powder or to taste
- ½ teaspoon coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons cilantro optional
- Water as needed for kneading
- 2 tbsp Ghee or oil for cooking
Knead the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and a pinch of salt.
Slowly add water and knead until you get a soft, pliable dough.
Lightly coat the dough with oil or ghee, cover, and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Prepare the Mashed Potato Filling
In another bowl, mash the boiled potatoes.
Mix in cumin powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt, and chopped cilantro (if using).
Adjust seasoning to taste, ensuring the mashed potatoes are flavorful.
Assemble the Flatbread
Divide the dough into 6–8 equal balls.
Take one ball and roll it into a small circle (about 4 inches in diameter).
Place a spoonful of the spiced mashed potato filling in the center.
Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them to seal. Gently flatten the stuffed dough ball.
Roll It Out
Dust a rolling surface with a little flour.
Carefully roll the stuffed dough ball into a 5–7 inch circle, making sure the filling stays inside.
Cook the Flatbread
Heat a skillet or tawa over medium-high heat.
Place the rolled flatbread on the hot surface. Cook for about 30 seconds, then flip.
Spread a little ghee or oil on the top side. Flip again and apply more ghee or oil.
Cook until both sides are golden brown and lightly crispy while staying soft inside.
Serving Suggestions
- Yogurt or Raita: The cool tanginess pairs perfectly with the warm, spiced flatbread.
- Pickle (Achar): Adds a spicy-sour kick that complements the potato filling.
- Butter or Ghee: Place a small dollop on each paratha for an authentic North Indian touch.
