Equipment

  • Air fryer

Ingredients

  • 4 potatoes Russet or Yukon Gold are great choices
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil For a rich flavor
  • .5 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder For an earthy taste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin ground
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup cilantro chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Potatoes

  • Start by washing and peeling the potatoes. Cut them into 1-inch cubes.
  • Place the potato cubes in a bowl of cold water. This helps remove excess starch and keeps them crispy when cooked.

Step 2: Cook the Potatoes

  • Heat a large pan over medium heat and add the olive oil.
  • Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
  • Add the potatoes to the pan and cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden and crispy.

Step 3: Add the Spices

  • Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for another minute, making sure not to burn it.
  • Sprinkle the ground coriander, cumin, and chili flakes over the potatoes. Stir well to coat the potatoes with the spices.
  • Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Step 4: Finish with Herbs and Lemon

  • Turn off the heat and add the chopped cilantro and lemon juice.
  • Give everything a good stir, making sure the cilantro and lemon juice are evenly distributed.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy!

  • Transfer the spicy potatoes to a serving dish.
  • Garnish with a bit more fresh cilantro if desired.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Batata Harra.

Notes

Tips for Making the Perfect Batata Harra

  1. Choosing the Right Potatoes: I prefer using starchy potatoes like Russet for their crispiness. Waxy potatoes can work too, but they might not get as crispy.
  2. Adjusting the Spice Level: If you’re not a fan of too much heat, reduce the amount of chili flakes. Conversely, if you love spice, feel free to add more!
  3. Using Fresh Ingredients: Fresh garlic and cilantro make a huge difference in the flavor. Don’t skimp on these!
