Kahwa Recipe

Kahwa or kahwah is Kashmiri tea with flavorful spices like cinnamon cardamom cloves and saffron. You can easily make the kahwa premix too at home with the recipe. Here’s how to make kahawa at home.

Ingredients
  

  • 10 grams Cinnamon 1 inch pc
  • 2 Cardamom
  • 2 Cloves
  • 10 Saffron
  • 5 Almonds
  • 2 tbsp Honey

To serve: These are optional ingredients but add a lot of taste to this tea drink. You can use them or skip as per your choice. Slivers of almonds or pistachio are added as garnish and texture.

Instructions
 

  • In a small mortar and pestle crush together the cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and saffron.
  • Cut Almonds into slivers or crush them. Keep aside.
  • Heat 2 cups of water in a pan.
  • Once the water starts to boil add crushed spices and tea leaves.
  • Turn off the heat and cover it with the lid.
  • Let it steep for 1-2 minutes.
  • Strain and pour into cups. Drizzle with honey and garnish with chopped almonds.

Notes

Substitutions: If you can’t find green tea you can use regular Kashmiri tea. You can substitute honey with either maple syrup or stevia.
You can also use any other sweetener of your choice.  

Recipe Notes:  You can premix all the ingredients in the mentioned quantities and make a kahwa pre mix to use as required.
After adding tea and spices immediately turn off the heat. Do not boil it too much otherwise it may turn bitter.
