- 1 onion thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon Olive oil
- 1 tablespoons butter
- 4 slices Sourdough bread
- 2 slice Emmental cheese
- 10 grams Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup mushrooms
- Salt and pepper to taste
In a pan heat olive oil and add sliced onion cook on slow heat to caramelise them. Sprinkle salt to help the caramelisation. Also saute some mushrooms.
Shave some parmesan or gruyere cheese.
On one slice of sourdough bread, add a layer of the caramelized onions, place a slice of any melty cheese.
then a layer of sautéed mushrooms, some mixed herbs and pepper for extra flavour. and top with shaved Gruyère or parmesan. Cover with another slice of buttered bread.
Preheat your skillet over medium heat.
Place the sandwiches in the pan and cook until the bottom is golden brown, around 3-5 minutes. Then, flip and cook until the other side is golden and the cheese is melted.
Once done, remove from heat and let them sit for a couple of minutes to allow the cheese to set a little.
Slice your French Onion Grilled Cheese in half and serve it while it's still warm.
