    A crispy spicy Indian bread snack recipe that you can enjoy as breakfast or snack. This is one of most delicious crispy evening snack with bread. Make this unique Upside Down bread sandwich pakora is a huge, upside-down pakora recipe for monsoon with a perfect cup of masala chai.

    Many of you have requested for more Indian recipes with bread slices. I have shared many Indian style Bread snack recipes, like bread pakora, bread poha, cheesy bread pockets, paneer bread rolls etc.

    The bread snack recipe that I am sharing with you today is unique. This is a Club Sandwich Upside Down pakora. This is a huge, triple-layer bread pakora with an upside-down, double-coated layers.You can make these upside bread pakora for teatime or breakfast.

    It has a reverse make with the potato filling outside the bread! It is a little tricky to make, but the taste is totally worth the extra effort.

    Ingredients Required

    Bread slices: Brown bread or white bread. Sandwich bread works better for this recipe. 

    Potatoes: Boiled and mashed potatoes 

    Tomatoes: Sliced into thin roundels.

    Cheese slice: For making a cheesy layer in sandwich filling.

    All Purpose Flour:To make batter for the coating

    Rice Flour: Rice flour to add to pakora batter. Rice flour helps make this crispy snack. 

    Spices & Seasonings: Salt, red chilli flakes, mixed herbs seasoning

    How To Make This Bread Snack Recipe 

    The filling for this Club style bread sandwich consists of seasoned fresh tomatoes and cheese. The Club sandwich bread sandwich is then covered with a layer of mashed spiced potatoes which is dipped in all purpose flour and rice flour batter. Rice flour makes this super crisp. 

    This becomes a giant puffed bread pakoda. The taste is ultimate but the steps are quite easy if you are willing to attempt. It is just like dipping an Italian sandwich in a batter and frying it but with an extra layer of tastiness. 

    Try making this evening snack with bread today because the monsoons are incomplete without piping hot crispy food, chai and lots of chatters.

    Step by Step Recipe

    Spiced Mashed Potato Stuffing/covering

    In a separate bowl add mashed potatoes, salt, black pepper, cilantro, lime juice and mix well to make a potato stuffing.

    In a big mixing bowl add rice flour, all purpose flour, salt and mixed herbs, Add 1 cup of water to make thick coating consistency, smooth and thick pakora batter. 

    Add water in small batches as you go to avoid lump formation. Make a smooth batter not runny to get crisp cover.

    To Assemble Bread Sandwich 

    Take one bread slice and layer 3 slices of tomatoes on it. Season the tomatoes with pepper and salt. 

    Place another slice of bread on top of it and place a cheese slice on it.

    Season the cheese with only pepper. Cover the cheese layer with another bread slice.

    Now the sandwich is ready.

    Wrapping bread slices with potato mixture step by step

    Cover it with spiced mashed potatoes from all around. 

    Spread the mashed potatoes like a sheet and carefully wrap the sandwich with it from all sides. Tuck the sides properly. Patch in mashed potatoes wherever needed. 

    Now dip this potato bread sandwich in the batter.

    Deep fry these battered potato mixture clad bread slices in hot oil. Keep pouring hot oil from the sides so that the batter doesn't come off.

    Serve this Sandwich pakora cut into four pieces with your favourite sauce. I serve this with a duo of marinara sauce and sour cream or plain tomato ketchup. 

    Recipe Notes and Tried Tested Tips

    • Boil the potatoes with salt so that they are moist and not dry. You can also use leftover mashed potatoes. 
    • Feel free to add any spices along with the mentioned ones. 
    • You can use mozzarella cheese to pull-apart bread pakoda. 
    • While deep frying keeps pouring hot oil on the top layer so that it does not leave the bread while flipping.
    • While flipping it use two spoons as I have shown in step by step pictures. It is a heavy sandwich pakora with one spoon there may be splashes of hot oil.

    Ingredients

    • 6 sandwich bread slices

    For spiced potato mix

    • 1.5 cup mashed potatoes
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • ½ teaspoon pepper
    • 1 teaspoon green coriander leaves
    • 2 tablespoon lemon juice

    For Pakora Batter

    • 1 cup All purpose flour maida
    • ¼ cup Rice flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon mixed herbs
    • Oil for deep frying

    Instructions
