    Why You Should Make Churmur

Churmur is not only delicious but also very easy to make. You can easily find the ingredients required to make it at home, making it a great option for an evening snack or as a party starter. It is a great way to satisfy your cravings for street food without leaving your home.

    Why Should You Make Churmur?

Churmur is the perfect snack for those who love bold and spicy flavors. The combination of crispy puri, boiled potatoes, spices, tamarind chutney, yogurt, and sev creates a unique and satisfying taste that is sure to leave you craving for more. Churmur is also easy to make, requires minimal ingredients, and is a great way to use up any leftover puri from the previous day.

    Ingredients Required

Making Churmur is simple and requires minimal ingredients:

Potatoes : Boiled Potatoes, I always keep a few in my fridge during weekly meal prep. Boiled potatoes come handy for chaats, salad, quick curries and so many other snacks.

Kala Chana: Just like potatoes I keep kala chana and boiled chickpeas during meal prep. In case you want to use canned chickpeas you can use them after rinsing.

Tamarind water: Use pani puri water or tamarind water. In a pinch I use watered down tamarind chutney

Spices: red chili powder, cumin powder, Salt to taste, bhaja masala,

    For Garnish: green chilli, coriander/cilantro

    Method

    Here's how to make Churmur:

    1. Crush the puri using your hands or a rolling pin.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, add the crushed puri, boiled potatoes, red chili powder, roasted cumin powder, and salt. Mix well.
    3. Add the tamarind chutney and chickpeas (if using) and mix again.
    4. Take a small serving bowl, add a spoonful of the churmur mix, top it with some red chilli powder and Serve immediately.

Tips to make The Best Churmur:

    1. Use stale puri to make churmur as it crushes easily and has a crispy texture.
    2. Make a spicy mix of crushed puri, boiled potatoes, spices, and tamarind chutney.
    3. You can also add chickpeas, yogurt, and sev to make it more interesting.

Can you make Churmur chaat in advance?

Yes, you can make Churmur chaat in advance by prepping the ingredients and storing them separately in the refrigerator. However, it is best to assemble and serve the chaat just before eating for the best taste and texture.

    How to Store Churmur

Churmur is best enjoyed fresh, but you can store the ingredients separately in the refrigerator for a day or two. The puri and the boiled potatoes can be stored in separate containers, and the spices, tamarind chutney, and yogurt can be stored in airtight containers. To serve, simply mix all the ingredients together and garnish with sev.

Other Kolkata Chaat That are Famous

In addition to Churmur, Kolkata is home to many other delicious chaats. Some of the most popular Kolkata chaats include:

    • Jhal Muri: A spicy snack made with puffed rice, spices, peanuts, and raw veggies.
    • Aloo Tikki: A crispy potato patty served with chutney and yogurt.
    • Kachori: A deep-fried pastry filled with spices and peas.
    • Ghugni: A spicy chickpea dish served with puri.

In conclusion, Churmur is a delicious and easy-to-make snack that is a must-try for anyone who loves spicy and tangy flavors. So, the next time you're in Kolkata, make sure to give Churmur a try and discover for yourself why it's so beloved by locals and tourists alike.
