Ingredients
- Yogurt: whole milk greek yogurt or full fat Greek yoghourt sour cream are some wonderful options for making chilli oil yogurt dip.
- Oil: oil is one of the most important ingredients you need to choose while making sizzling chilli oil yogurt dip. You can go for olive oil or groundnut oil.
- Scallions/Spring onions: You can use both white and green parts or opt for chopped up green parts of the spring onions.
- Crushed red chillies or red chilli flakes.
- Chips or bread to serve you can use pita chips or nacho chips.
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl combine salt, red chilli, spring onions, cilantro leaves, coriander stems, toasted peanuts.
- Now, heat the oil in a pan over high heat till smoking hot.
- Once done, pour the hot oil over ingredients in the bowl.
- When you pour hot oil over ingredients it will cook all the ingredients.
- Mix everything and leave it for a few minutes to infuse the flavour. It will develop the flavour and a beautiful red hue.
- Swirl the yogurt into a shallow dish, then season generously with salt.
- Now drizzle part of the oil mixture on top, or all of it.
- Serve this flavourful dip with your choice of chips.
Recipe notes
Do not pour hot oil over cold yogurt. Allow the chilli oil to cool slightly before pouring over yogurt.
If you do not have greek yogurt You can use strained yogurt. Place a muslin cloth in a strainer or yogurt over it and strain the why to obtain a thick yogurt and use that.
Pro Tip
if you're planning to have a night full of fun and games with friends and fam, Make the chilli oil in advance and when you are ready spread oil onto a plate and pour the chilli oil.
Substitutions:
- Yoghurt: if you're not such a big fan of yogurt, you can go for ricotta, mascarpone or whipped feta to make this homemade dip.
- Cilantro: You can even add parsley to your yogurt dip. If there's no parsley available, use dill.
- Red chilli powder: You can substitute them for red chilli flakes.
- Garlic: I have used coriander stems for the flavour but if you like garlic go for it. It makes excellent garlicky dip for any of your snacks.
- Lemon Zest: this is entirely optional but it adds a lemony zest to this appetiser.
Serving Suggestions for chilli oil yogurt dip
It's a light and tangy sauce with a lovely blend of ingredients. Since you use fresh yogrurt, it's fairly healthful and uses simple ingredients that don't require preservatives.
- It goes well with fried dishes like french fries, chickpea squash fritters, and other fried delicacies.
- Apart from that, you can save this creamy delight with pita bread and falafel
- It is a perfect filling for any sandwich. Only thing I change when I use it for sandwiches is I use hung curd.
- You can also serve this dip with raw veggies, crackers, and/or bread.
Storage
You can store the leftover chilli oil yogurt dip in an airtight container for about 1 to 2 days. This way you can make a fresh dip with fresh yogurt anytime.
