Health Benefits Of Haldi Doodh - Why you should Drink Turmeric Milk

Do you remember that in childhood why Grandma gave you haldi wala doodh after a bad fall, or when you had a cold? Because She knew Haldi doodh has antiseptic properties and is immunity booster so it heals you faster.

Turmeric milk detoxifies. According to Ayurveda turmeric is a blood purifier, improves blood circulation and good for the lymphatic system. Which in turn detoxifies the liver.

Haldi Doodh is a powerful combination of two ingredients milk and turmeric. known as Turmeric latte, Golden Milk Haldi doodh is a healthy drink for winters.

For Insomnia: If you have sleep problems Turmeric milk helps you to sleep better. Milk in turmeric milk aids in the production of serotonin and melatonin (sleep-regulating chemicals human brain produces).

For Reducing Stress: Turmeric further helps in reducing stress and relaxes the body. Turmeric Milk at bedtime is a great idea for peaceful sleep.

Why Turmeric Milk is Healthy Drink for Winters

    1. Warm haldi drink is a natural immunity booster. Drinking haldi doodh boosts immunity as turmeric contains a compound known as curcumin which is known for it’s anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It helps to fight common winter problems like cold, cough and flu and keep them at bay.
    2. If you are prone to headaches caused by congestions in winters drinking turmeric milk in the morning or evening is found to be beneficial as it acts as a natural painkiller.
    3. Turmeric is rich in antioxidants as well as several nutrients, so it works like a natural painkiller against headaches, especially those caused by congestion.

How to Make Turmeric Milk right way

Eating right food is one thing, but getting maximum health benefits requires certain combination or nutrients. Eating healthy food in right way is key to get the maximum health benefits.

Turmeric has strong antioxidant, antibacterial properties, but we must consume it in right way so that it is absorbed well in our body. It should be bio available to our body. In this recipe I am sharing the right method to make turmeric milk for better absorption of nutrients.

    What is Bioavailability?

When you eat certain food in combination with each other the health benefits increase many folds due to bioavailability. In layman term, it is the fraction of the nutrient that is digested, absorbed and metabolized by our body.

    Ingredients for Haldi Doodh

Turmeric: You can use either fresh raw turmeric or powdered turmeric as per availability. Powdered dry haldi/turmeric is more potent so read carefully about the quantities in the recipe card below.

Milk: Preferably use full fat milk for better absorption of nutrients. I use cow's milk which is organic. If you want to make vegan turmeric milk use either of almond milk or coconut milk.

Black Pepper: A pinch of black pepper also can be added for better absorption and it's anti cough properties.

Ginger: ginger is another powerful antioxidant and reduces inflammation in body. It helps to sooth sore throat and fights common flu and cold. That's the reason I always add it.

    Step by Step Recipe

Recipe Notes and Tips to Make Turmeric Milk

    • To get maximum health benefits from turmeric use black pepper/kali mirch which increases the bioavailability of the curcumin from turmeric.
    • Always add a small amount of fat which helps in faster absorption of turmeric in blood. Which allows you to get maximum health benefits.
    • For making turmeric milk/haldi doodh I always use full fat milk because higher amount of fat helps in better absorption.
    • I also add ginger which further boosts in properties.

PS: These days on doctor's advice I am giving it everyday to my husband who is recovering from corona virus infection. (Always first check with your doctor because everything does not suit everyone)
