Egg in A hole Recipe in Skillet

  2. Pre toast: Medium heat; toast each side 30–60 sec until lightly golden.
  3. Add egg: Crack an egg into the hole; cover 30–60 sec just to set whites.
  4. Flip & finish: Flip gently; cook to your preferred yolk. Serve immediately.

Egg Doneness & Timing Guide

  • Runny: cover, 30–45 sec; very brief second side.
  • Jammy: cover, 60–75 sec; slightly longer second side.
  • Fully set: cover, 90 sec; finish on medium low to avoid scorching.

Air Fryer Method

  1. Preheat 190°C / 375°F. Butter bread; cut the center hole.
  2. Place a slice in the basket; crack an egg into the hole. Air fry 5–7 min to set whites to preference.
  3. For extra crisp, air fry 1–2 min more or pan-finish.

Oven and Sheet Pan Method

  1. Preheat 200°C / 400°F. Line a sheet with parchment; lightly butter bread and cut the hole.
  2. Set bread on the sheet; crack an egg into the hole
  3. Bake on the center rack, until whites set to your liking (yolk jiggle = runny).
  4. For crisper edges, broil 30–60 sec or pan-finish briefly.

Pro Tips & Troubleshooting

  • Hole size matters: too small = overflow; too big = egg spreads thin.
  • No burnt toast: pre-toast lightly, then finish lower and slower.
  • Flip like a pro: crack the egg close to the pan so it lands centered; use a wide fish spatula.
  • Mayo vs butter: mayo browns evenly; butter gives classic flavor. A 50/50 smear works great.

Optional Variations

  • Grilled cheese variation (optional): add 1 slice of melty cheese (American/cheddar/havarti). Close with a second slice; grill 1–2 min/side until melted.
  • Tomato & herb: thinly sliced tomatoes + parsley or chives .
  • Spicy: chilli flakes or a pinch of chaat masala.

Serving & Pairing

Perfect with tomato soup for dipping, a green salad, coffee or masala chai.

Storage & Reheat

Best fresh. If needed, refrigerate up to 1 day. Re-crisp in a skillet 2–3 min/side; avoid microwaving (it toughens yolk and softens crust).
