The recipe is super easy and quick to make. You can watch Video below or follow detailed step by step instructions in Recipe card.

Prepare Cucumbers:
- First I grate cucumbers using large holes of a box grater. I wash cucumbers properly and do not peel it. This gives a nice texture and those lovely green specks in the sauce.
- Next, I squeeze out extra water before mixing it with yogurt. Make sure to drain out the water properly otherwise tzatziki is liquidy and watered down.
Prepare Yogurt
Mix in Greek yogurt. You can use regular yogurt as well but make sure to drain out extra water by placing yogurt in a muslin cloth placed in a mesh strainer over a bowl.
Assemble
- Add the yogurt, dill leaves, mint leaves, salt, extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice.
- Mix all of these and allow the tzatziki to rest for 5 minutes for flavours to meld. You can serve it immediately or chill for some time in the fridge before serving.

Pro Tips for the Best Homemade Tzatziki
- Draining cucumbers are a must for the perfect texture of tzatziki. You can salt cucumber before squeezing out water. This will ensure that the sauce is not watered down.
- I have not added garlic as I do not like the taste. But if you love garlic go ahead and add it. Authentic greek cucumber sauce has garlic in it.
- For the best taste and texture use full-fat greek yogurt.
- The perfect way to squeeze cucumbers is by using a cheesecloth or thick napkin. But if not available use your hands to squeeze out as much water as you can.
