Which Cinnamon is Best
Mainly there are two types of cinnamon that are available easily in the market. Cassia cinnamon and Ceylon cinnamon. Both have different tastes and look.
- Ceylon Cinnamon. For making cinnamon tea Ceylon cinnamon is used. This is also known as “true” cinnamon. This is known for its medicinal properties and perfect cinnamon taste. Ceylon cinnamon has a light brown colour. The distinctive characteristic is these have multiple thin layers that are swirled inside. Ceylon cinnamon is slightly more expensive than cassia cinnamon. In the container, it has a very mild flavour but once you add it to any dish its aroma is irresistible and flavours shine through.
- Cassia Cinnamon: This is a common variety easily available in grocery stores. With their dark colour and thick single sheet, these look better than true cinnamon or Ceylon cinnamon. Cassia cinnamon has a strong flavour but is not as healthy as Ceylon cinnamon is.
How Much Cinnamon To Consume In A Day
As per a study published in the Agricultural Research Magazine, just 1gram of cinnamon per day can help in increasing insulin sensitivity in type-2 diabetes. In another study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it is said that 6 grams of cinnamon could help prevent the risk of hyperglycemia after main meals.
I personally add about ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder or one-inch cinnamon stick in a cup of water and consume one cup of this tea daily.
But I am talking about Making cinnamon tea with Ceylon cinnamon here.
Cassia cinnamon has a compound known as coumarin which can be harmful if consumed in larger quantities. So I suggest do not use cassia cinnamon for making this tea.
Top tip
Use Ceylon Cinnamon for the Best Results. This one has a lot of health benefits and medicinal properties.
I personally consume this tea every day based on my Ayurvedic doctor's advice. I have shared this post as general information only. Even though I have done research on this still I do not claim responsibility for this information. Always consult a medical professional for your own specific health conditions.
