Samosa is the best Indian snack. I don't think there are two opinions about it. Indian Punjabi samosa recipe is the favourite most at our home. If you thought making samosa is a long process, let me tell you an easy way to make best Punjabi samosa at home.

Best Indian samosa recipe using pastry sheet. Punjabi samosa recipe, a popular Indian snack. #indianfood #samosa #snack #teatimesnack
Punjabi samosa recipe with samosa patti

Spiced mashed potatoes encased in crispy samosa covering served with tangy spicy green chutney and sweet and sour tamarind chutney, samosa is an Indian snack that is love at first bite!

I am taking you through step by step method of How to make samosa with samosa Patti or samosa sheet, and of course, Aloo stuffing for samosa.

I love samosa and chai and simply can't resist a good samosa, any time of the day. Punjabi samosa is simply the Best! Because that's what I grew up eating. Can you really forget that simple pleasure of college canteen samosa dipped in runny tamarind chutney slurped with that masala tea and gossips... I just can't. Those were the best days of life.

We can't bring those days back but we can always make best samosa!

So lets talk about this homemade punjabi samosa recipe. Often times I make these samosa with readymade samosa sheets. If you want to eat homemade samosa and want an easy samosa recipe that takes less time. You make Punjabi samosa at home with Samosa Patti or samosa pastry sheet.

If you can make your own samosa dough, nothing like it. I make my own samosa dough most of the times. If you want to make real Punjabi samosa with dough and potato stuffing, I have written everything about traditional Indian Punjabi samosa recipe. I have also shared a baked samosa recipe which is healthy and almost very low oil samosa.

Aloo stuffing for Punjabi samosa recipe

    Punjabi samosa Stuffing

Samosa stuffing is an important part of making samosa. Punjabi samosa filling is made with aloo, matar and simple spices that are usually available in the kitchen.

No onion or garlic is used in authentic Punjabi samosa filling. But if you like the taste of garlic or onion you can add them in samosa filling. You can make the aloo stuffing as spicy as you want. I like to add small cubes of paneer sometimes. You can add paneer in the filling if you like it.

    Can you make Baked Samosa?

Yes! Samosa can be baked. Traditional recipe of samosa is deep fried. But health consciousness people try to make baked samosa. I have made whole wheat baked samosa recipe with Chef Vikas Khanna as a part of Fit Foodie panel.

You can check my Baked samosa recipe, or simply check this recipe instruction in the end. One thing I must admit here is Baked samosa still comes out slightly dryer than deep fried samosa. But saves a lot of calories 🙂

Can You Make Samosa in Air Fryer?

Air fryer has made life so much easier and guilt-free for us food lovers. You can definitely make samosa in Air fryer. As you can see in the samosa picture below. The crust is slightly different from the deep fried samosa in the picture above. But the air fryer samosa tastes absolutely yummy too. Perfect crispy crust and the Punjabi aloo filling! Best of both the words.

    Baked Samosa in Air fryer

How to Make Samosa in Advance

You can make samosa in advance and refrigerate them. You can make the samosa recipe till folding the samosa and refrigerate them. Now the question is till how long these samosas last. You can store samosa in the freezer for up to 6 weeks and in the refrigerator for up to 6-8 hours.

If you make small samosa, you can serve them as appetisers or finger snack. These are called cocktail samosa. You can serve the samosa with green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney. Samosa with tomato ketchup or Red chilli sauce is not bad either if you are feeling lazy.

How to Fold Samosa with Samosa Patti

Samosa folding is not as difficult as it feels first. With time It becomes easier. However, folding samosa with samosa Patti is slightly complicated. So I have made this step by step video of how to fold samosa with samosa Patti.

Best Punjabi Samosa Recipe with Samosa Patti

Here's step by step recipe video of samosa.

    How To Serve Samosa

I mostly serve Punjabi samosa as Samosa chole combination. You can make a samosa chaat with curd, sweet tamarind chutney, green chutney and spices which is finally topped with sev.

If you are in mood for no more wait after making samosa, simply serve them with tomato ketchup or green chutney... they still taste delicious!

    Ingredients

    • 300 g Potatoes boiled
    • 1 tablespoon Chopped ginger
    • 1 green chillies Chopped
    • 2 tablespoon coriander seed powder
    • 2 tablespoon masala / amchoor mango powder panipuri powder
    • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
    • to taste salt
    • 3 - 4 tablespoon coriander Chopped
    • 1 cup Peas frozen/ blanched
    • 1 teaspoon cumin
    • 8 samosa sheet

    Instructions

    Punjabi Samosa Aloo Filling

    • To make samosa filling start by heating oil in the pan.
    • Add cumin seeds, chopped ginger, green chilli and coriender. Stir fry for a minute and add a tablespoon of water if it starts to burn.
    • Now add coriander powder and panipuri masala to the pan, stir to mix it.
    • Season it with salt and red chilli and add boiled potatoes. Mix it well and keep this filling aside to cool.
    • When filling is cold, place 1 big spoon of aloo filling on to a samosa sheet.
    • Fold the samosa sheets as shown in the samosa folding video and prepare all the samosa likewise.

    Frying Samosa in Oil

    • Heat Oil for deep frying in the pan and allow it to come to smoke point.
    • Lower the heat and after 2 minutes drop prepared samosa in hot oil. On low heat deep fry samosa till golden brown.

    Video

    Notes

Now there are two methods from here one is deep frying the samosa and second is air fry in the microwave. I have shown both methods in video.
    Notes
If you don't have slim fry function mode in your microwave you can use traditional air fryer ( I don't use one because my microwave has all these functions and I unnecessarily don't want to clutter my previous counter space)
I mostly believe in keeping one gadget with multifunctions , it may come little expensive but if you put together the amount you pay for many different gadgets it is still much less and the you have less cluttered counter 🙂

When I lived in Bahrain we used to get Sambusa from a little stand across the street from where we lived. I’m wondering if these are the same thing?

Yes they are similar, while the pastry covering is same but stuffing may change as Arabic Sambusa usually have meat filling. This is vegetarian filling.
