    Instant rice idli in microwave

This idli recipe is a little different from the usual recipe as I have used brown rice and split moong dal. Regular idli is made using white rice and white urad dal. But brown rice idli tastes slightly different but delicious nevertheless. Also in this post, I have shown how to make Idli in the microwave. You can make it in idli steamer. The method of steaming idli in idli steamer is here in this another variety of Instant Idli.

How to Make Idli in Microwave

I have made these brown rice idles using the microwave oven from the LG microwave. The heart-healthy Auto-cook menu makes it super easy to cook soft and fluffy idlis in the microwave at the mere touch of a button.

Making Idlis in the microwave is faster, more convenient and it is lesser clean up after you are done making these soft and spongy idles.

It takes 9 minutes for idli to cook in the microwave oven.

You need to use microwave idli maker to use in the microwave. The idli maker contains 2 plates of idli moulds and in each plate, you can make 4 pcs of idli. So that means a total of 8 pc idli in one batch when you cook them in the microwave.

First of all start by washing and soaking rice, dal and fenugreek seeds for 6 hours. [photo1,2]

Next is making Instant Rice idli batter. For that, I grind rice and dal separately and then allowing them to ferment. [photo3,4]

You can make instant rice idli using Eno which can be made instantly. Or you can ferment batter naturally. This way you can make brown rice idli batter without Eno.

Final Step is steaming idlis. I steam them in the microwave which is quick and super convenient.

For that, in the bottom trey of the idli mould add water. Grease a microwave idli mould with a drop of oil. [photo 4,5]

    Recipe Tips and Notes

You can make Idli batter in advance, but add Eno or fruit salt only when you are ready to steam them.

If you want to make rice idli without Eno, do not add onion and carrot in the batter. Just allow this batter to ferment naturally. That will take 6-18 hours depending upon weather conditions. After batter ferments, you can add vegetables of your choice or use the idli batter as it is.
